Dawlish Weekend 2024

Another fantastic weekend at the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish with teacher William Williamson and musician Ewan Galloway. This page contains instructions for all of William’s dances, including the two morning classes and the advanced class on Saturday afternoon. William showed great form despite having a health scare only 4 weeks before the weekend. He puts his speedy recovery down to his good fitness level as a result of taking part in Scottish Country Dancing. Ewan was a star as he regularly played a dance 10 times through to accommodate dancer numbers when we had 5 couple sets.

Thank You Message from our Secretary – Graeme Dickson
Many thanks to everyone who came to our dancing weekend at the Langstone Cliff Hotel. It really was a marvellous weekend.
Firstly, a special thank you to William Williamson and Ewan Galloway, our teacher and musician. We were so lucky to have them and they worked together in perfect harmony, even down to the jokes. It was an honour to have the Chairman of the RSCDS and the creator of “The Stagger Inn” both travel down to deepest Devon from Bonnie Scotland.
Thank you to Val Sewry for organising this year’s event, generously taking over from Marion and Martin. She gave us the impression that it was a simple task, but I am sure the reality differed. She stayed cheerful throughout and has even volunteered to run next years event, which is already looking extremely popular.
We must also thank Irene, Sue and Liz for calling the dances and to the ceilidh artists for making Saturday such a wonderful evening. William and Ewan both remarked that from the stage all they saw was a sea of happy, smiling faces.
Thanks to Brenda and Diana for another taxing quiz and to Liz for the group photo and for uploading the dances which William taught onto the WSCD website.
The Langstone Cliff hotel was wonderful. The staff were universally friendly and helpful and made us all feel welcome. Throughout the weekend there was a great atmosphere of us all enjoying dancing together, whatever our ability. William even gave us a demonstration of the most elegant dancing without his feet ever leaving the floor!
A big final thanks to everyone involved and look forward to us all meeting again next year at the Langstone Cliff hotel, 17-19th October. Judy Valvona from the Isle of Wight will be our teacher and David Hall the musician.
Best wishes to you all and I am sure, like me, you are already looking forward to next years event with anticipation.
Graeme
